Health Data
This page describes specifically how CycleQuest interacts with Apple HealthKit on iOS and Android Health Connect. It is an extension of the Privacy Policy, written so you can verify exactly which health data types CycleQuest reads and writes, where that data lives, and how to revoke access.
1. Summary
- HealthKit and Health Connect data is read on your device only. CycleQuest never transmits raw HealthKit or Health Connect data to our servers, to CalmHer, or to any third party.
- Permission is requested only when you choose to enable health integration. You can decline, and the rest of CycleQuest will continue to work.
- You can revoke access at any time from your device's settings.
- None of this data is included in the partner-facing summary that CalmHer can request.
2. Data Types We May Read
If you grant permission, CycleQuest may read the following data types in order to compute on-device wellness insights, sleep summaries, and pattern detection:
- Menstrual flow — to align cycle predictions with what's already in Health
- Sleep analysis — to surface sleep hours alongside your check-ins
- Heart rate variability (HRV) — to flag changes that may correlate with cycle phase
- Resting heart rate — same purpose as HRV
- Basal body temperature — to inform fertile-window estimates
- Active energy / activity — to provide context for energy and movement check-ins
The exact set of data types is requested transparently through the iOS HealthKit permission sheet (or the Android Health Connect permission screen) so you see and approve each category before any read happens. You may approve a subset; CycleQuest will simply skip any insight that depends on a category you didn't grant.
3. Data We Write to HealthKit / Health Connect
CycleQuest does not currently write any data back to Apple HealthKit or Android Health Connect. Period entries you log in CycleQuest stay inside CycleQuest.
Apple's HealthKit framework requires apps to declare a write-permission usage string whenever the HealthKit entitlement is enabled, even if no writes are performed. That is why iOS may show a "write" permission card during the Health permission flow. You can deny it; CycleQuest does not depend on it.
4. What We Do Not Read
CycleQuest does not request, and the app's permission entitlements do not include, sensitive categories such as clinical records, lab results, medications, mental health diagnoses, prescriptions, or any data type not listed in Section 2.
5. Where the Data Lives
- HealthKit / Health Connect data read by CycleQuest stays in your device's memory only long enough to compute the insight you're viewing.
- Cached summaries (for example, "your average sleep this phase") are stored in CycleQuest's local app storage on your device.
- None of this data — raw or summarized — is uploaded to CycleQuest's backend or shared with CalmHer or any third party.
- If you create an account and sync check-ins, the only sleep value that reaches our backend is the "sleep hours" number you confirmed when logging the check-in (Privacy Policy Section 2(D)). Underlying HealthKit samples are not transmitted.
6. How to Revoke Access
iOS (Apple HealthKit): open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → CycleQuest, then disable any data types you no longer want CycleQuest to read or write. You may also disable all of them.
Android (Health Connect): open the Health Connect app, find CycleQuest in the list of connected apps, and revoke any permissions you wish.
Revoking permission takes effect immediately. Any health-derived insights inside CycleQuest will simply stop updating. The rest of the app continues to function.
7. Apple Health App Disclosures
This page exists in part to satisfy Apple App Store Review's requirement that apps which use HealthKit clearly disclose how Health data is collected, used, and shared. Per Apple's guidelines:
- CycleQuest does not use HealthKit data for advertising or other use-based data mining purposes other than improving health, medical, and fitness management, or for the purpose of medical research.
- CycleQuest does not disclose any HealthKit-derived information to third parties without your explicit permission, and even with permission, the partner-link summary sent to CalmHer never includes HealthKit data.
- CycleQuest does not share HealthKit data with any third party that may use the information for advertising or data brokerage.
8. Wellness / Medical Disclaimer
CycleQuest is a wellness and informational tool. It is not a medical device. Insights derived from HealthKit or Health Connect data are estimates and should not be relied upon for diagnosis, treatment, or as a method of contraception. Always consult a qualified health professional for medical concerns.
9. Changes to This Page
If we add or remove a HealthKit / Health Connect data type, we will update this page and bump the Effective Date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the in-app permission prompts the next time CycleQuest requests access.
